The Hunger Games: The Exhibition In-Depth Review

Before you read our review, we just want to apologize for this extremely late review. We were busy with Independence Day and whatnot, so we were set back. Again. we're very sorry and here's our review of the Exhibition!

Hello, this is Hoon from The Mockingjay. Nathania and I visited The Hunger Games: The Exhibition on Wednesday, July 1st. This is our in-depth review about it, and let me just start off by saying this: this Exhibition is a MUST SEE for all Hunger Games fans near or visiting NYC. (Going offline for a few, I'll be back! I can do review on D12, you do the next, etc)

Hello, Tributes! I'm Nathania from The Mockingjay. I've made my way to the The Hunger Games: The Exhibition on Wednesday, July 1st. It was truly an amazing experience! From walking in through the entrance doors to leaving out after shopping in the gift shop. The first thing we viewed was an introduction showing Effie Trinket in District 12 at the Hall of Justice. Effie talked about taking us on journey for the exhibition, lastly she said, "Oh, and may the odds be ever in your favor."

It simply left me with chills! But, the part that really got to me was when the screen went black for a second and Elizabeth Banks popped up. Liz talked a bit about how she read the books and became a fan herself. Then a video played. The video had scenes from the very first movie all the way to the last. It left me nearly in tears, and doing the three finger salute. When everything finished, the doors opened up, leading us into District 12!

Hoon again here! Yes, I agree Nathania, the scenes had me reminiscing about the old days. From there, the doors open, and the crowd, including me, poured into the home of the Girl on Fire, District 12. One of the first things you see is the Hob. There, you will spot the gleaming Mockingjay pin inside the little stand. We know that the pin is supposed to be given to Katniss by Madge, the mayor's daughter, but in the movies it is portrayed that she got it from the Hob.

That's an example of one of those "educational" signs that are numerous along the whole tour of the Exhibition. They give value to the aspect of education, which will leave some parents feeling feeling a little better about not taking their kids to an art museum. Some other displays in District 12's sector is the costume of Katniss from the movie Catching Fire.
Next, you see some costumes of Katniss' mom and sister, Mrs. Everdeen and Prim. There's also some signs along the way, which you will see below.
Lastly, you see Effie in all her glory (and yes, those shoes DO look like torture devices, just like Jennifer Lawrence said) preparing to say Prim's name in the reaping.

The District 12’s set pieces and costumes whisked me away to when I first read and watched the movies. It truly was a walk down memory lane. It was nice that Katniss’ home and the beginning of her incredible story was the first thing that we saw when we entered the Exhibition. Now, Nathania will do the review about the next section!

Nathania here again! The Exhibition had lots of sections dedicated to Catching Fire. One I am going to tell you about is the the Tribute Train. When you first walk in you see many a thing and it can be a bit much to take in all at once, and I mean that in a good way.

Here's a picture of  when you walk in and look to your left. It shows a model of Haymitch Abernathy sitting down, looking quite focused. Standing next to him is a model of Peeta Mellark.

As you continue on your trek forward, you will spot the costumes of Effie Trinket and our leader the Mockingjay, Katniss Everdeen.

Next thing you know, you're on the train!

"Come along children, we are on a schedule. The train awaits!" - Effie Trinket

There, you see the plush seating and wide windows. You can enjoy the ride while looking out of the window as you pass the Districts! It is also a picture of me relaxing and enjoying the smooth ride!

Hi, Hoon again! The next section in the Exhibition was the Capitol. One of the first things you see in this section is President Snow's three iconic costumes. You also see him on his balcony, where he usually welcomes tributes during the chariot ride. "Welcome! Tributes, we welcome you. We salute your courage and your sacrifice, and we wish you Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor."  I had to resist the urge to glare. You could really get the feeling of being in 'enemy land', and you get the sense that you're really experiencing this. Next up is Katniss' and Peeta's chariot. To see it in person was something like a BAM! in my face. The chariot was a lot bigger than I initially thought, and adorned with roses, and mannequins wearing Cinna's costumes, I felt as if I were a Capitol citizen.

Next was President Snow's mansion, Cinna's sketchbook (from Mockingjay Part 1), and then we even got to sit down with Caesar Flickerman for our own interview! Although there was a crowd wherever we went, it was still amazing and fun nonetheless, and gave you a feeling that you were following in the footsteps of Peeta and Katniss.

The next section in the Exhibition was a place with an interactive Gamemaker's table where you can learn about the mutts in the movies, and how they filmed special effects, etc. If you opt in for a mobile guide, you can also see an interactive hologram through the device! Some other things inside that section was a knot-tying area, where you can test your skills in tying knots like Finnick! There were also some tribute costumes and weapons!

The next section was District 13, and it highlighted agriculture, Beetee's lab, etc. But what I found especially cool (even over Finnick's never-before-seen trident from Mockingjay Part 2) was the hologram.
Now, the Exhibition is coming to an end. And yes, they did save the best for last. They show all four costumes throughout the series, including the iconic leather jacket, the amazing wedding dress, the black Mockingjay dress, and finally her "suit of armor" from Mockingjay Part 1. That was mesmerizing, and I swear everyone was there for at least 10 minutes.

(We're having some problems with the site, so the pictures might not align, so please excuse us!)

Anyway, that's it for our review! I hope you get to experience the Exhibition yourself! It is definitely a must-see!
